This full day course is designed primarily for operating theatre staff, and auxiliary health professionals. Its aim is to provide a basic understanding with regards the concepts behind surgical management of common fractures.

By the end of the course candidates should be able to:

  • Be aware of the basic anatomy of the long bones in the upper and lower limb
  • Understand the aetiology of common fractures in the upper and lower limb
  • Understand the difference between extra- and intra-articular fractures and the rationale for surgical management
  • Understand the rationale for selection of appropriate fixation techniques for each of the above fracture types
  • Understand the current evidence with regards fixation techniques
